The veteran offensive lineman for the Detroit Lions has been ruled out for the divisional round.

Without a vital offensive lineman, the Detroit Lions will start the postseason.

Kevin Zeitler, the starting right guard, will not play against the Washington Commanders on Saturday in the divisional round. During the victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18, Zeitler suffered a hamstring injury. The veteran lineman just focused on rest and treatment this week, skipping practice.

Dan Campbell, the head coach, was explicit about his plans in the event that Zeitler was unable to participate. He expressed confidence in Kayode Awosika’s depth experience as a backup and stated that rookie Christian Mahogany would start in his place.

Without a vital offensive lineman, the Detroit Lions will start the postseason.

Mahogany will start for the second time in his career if the Lions carry out that plan. He made his first start against the Chicago Bears in Week 16 as a left-side replacement for Graham Glasgow.

Mahogany played effectively in the run-blocking game, allowing no sacks and only one pressure in 65 snaps. Both the team and outside observers praised his effort; Pro Football Focus ranked him ninth among guards for pass blocking that week.

Campbell stated on Thursday, “We felt that was a strong performance from him, and if it comes to that, we’re confident in giving him a shot.” However, we also have (Awosika) Yode, who we trust and who has represented us in postseason games. Thus, we believe that we are in a good position.

Veteran defensive lineman Pat O’Connor was also sidelined by the Lions because of a calf injury. Rookie cornerback Ennis Rakestraw, still in his 21-day return window from injured reserve, is rated as questionable due to a hamstring issue and illness.

Running back David Montgomery, left tackle Taylor Decker, and cornerback Terrion Arnold are all unconcerned. Throughout the week, Arnold and Montgomery were active competitors and are anticipated to compete in the divisional round.

Decker is available after missing practice on Wednesday because of a personal issue. He hadn’t been there because he and his wife had just had a baby.

Linebacker Jordan Magee will not play for the Commanders due to a hamstring injury. Tight end Colson Yankoff (hamstring) and linebacker Mykal Walker (illness) are classified as questionable.

The Detroit Lions’ seasoned offensive linemen will not be playing in the divisional round.
