The Los Angeles Lakers experienced one of the best trade deadlines in recent memory. Not only did the team sign star point guard Luka Doncic, but they also traded for center Mark Williams.
However, the squad could potentially add some talent along the way. Los Angeles may benefit from another shooting guard after selling away Max Christie and Dalton Knecht.
The Lakers may have just received a gift from a Western Conference rival. The Utah Jazz are reportedly planning to waive guard Josh Richardson. The reason this could help the Lakers is that Richardson could be the perfect addition to this team via the buyout market.
The Lakers need some help in the backcourt following all the moves that they have made. Richardson might give them a defensive-minded guard who can also shoot the ball pretty well.
The guard has been suffering with a heel issue but he is expected to join a competitive team after being dismissed by Utah. Richardson was previously with the Miami Heat but will now seek new opportunities to continue his season.
This year, the guard has averaged 4.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. Richardson is usually a good long-range shooter, but he has been struggling this year.
He normally shoots 36.3 percent from beyond the 3-point line, but he is only shooting 27.3 percent in eight games this season. While his numbers do not immediately stand out, Richardson could be just what the Lakers need to fully boost their squad for the season’s stretch run.
It remains to be seen whether the Lakers will be able to sign Richardson, but he could be an excellent choice for Los Angeles. The Lakers have an open roster space and will most likely be aggressive on the buyout market this season as they try to fill up the roster before the playoffs.
