Luka Doncic made his formal debut with the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night, giving NBA fans their first glimpse at the new tandem of Doncic and LeBron James.
Doncic scored 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists in a 132-113 victory over the Utah Jazz, his first game back since suffering a calf injury on Christmas Day.
Finally, Los Angeles was somewhat healthy, with LeBron and Doncic returning to face the Jazz on Wednesday night. However, in the first half, the Lakers lost another starting due to injury.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, starting center Jaxson Hayes will miss the second half of the game due to a face injury sustained in the first.
Jaxson Hayes will not return for the second half due to a facial contusion, according to the Lakers.
Fortunately for Los Angeles, they recently signed Alex Len to provide assistance down low. The former Phoenix Suns center made his debut with the Lakers on Wednesday.
Hayes, the former Texas Longhorns star, should not miss much time. Jaylen Brown, a Boston Celtics player, suffered a face contusion near the close of the 2022-23 season but missed only four games. He was, however, had to wear a mask for the remainder of the season.
Hayes had been a steady presence for the Lakers as Davis’ backup. In 30 games this season, he has averaged 5.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game. However, his high energy and athletic ability should complement Doncic and LeBron’s playmaking when he returns.
