Cooper Flagg, a freshman at Duke, is making an impression against some of the finest collegiate players in the country after spending the summer scrimmaging with—and impressing—some of the world’s best basketball players.
Whether it’s his highlight-reel poster dunk or his incredible ability to fill out stat sheets on a daily basis, the 18-year-old Flagg has quickly established himself as a must-see television personality.
During an episode of his show Basketball & Beyond With Coach K, Mike Krzyzewski, a five-time national champion, declared Flagg the “best player in the country.” Flagg has also caught the attention of a Blue Devils legend.
Krzyzewski was particularly impressed by Flagg’s competitiveness and teamwork abilities, in addition to his exceptional offensive versatility and passing ability.
Krzyzewski stated, “He’s such a great teammate,” noting his presence on the bench. He is thrilled for his teammates. He is only eighteen, too. He is aware of all of this. He enjoys being with his gang. He is not pleased with his rival. He’s a hard competitor. He is the nation’s top player.
With the exception of Auburn’s forward Johni Broome, no one is performing better than Flagg this season. Through 17 games, the Newport, Maine native has averaged 18.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. On defense, he averages more than one theft and a block per game.
Flagg also had the best performance of his early college basketball career, scoring 42 points in a win over Notre Dame this week, breaking the ACC single-game scoring record for a freshman.
The Duke sensation has already impressed Krzyzewski, who has spent his basketball coaching career surrounded by numerous exceptional players.
Flagg will celebrate his New England homecoming against Boston College, the Blue Devils’ next opponent.
